Information for telephone survey participants

This study ended on 31st August 2009. The IID2 telephone research team based at UEA in Norfolk, would like to say a very big "Thank you" to all those participants from all four UK nations who agreed to take part in the survey via telephone.

Your cooperation meant that we were able to complete more than 14,400 telephone surveys in the United Kingdom, surpassing the target set.

If you have been contacted by one of our telephonists, then we hope that the information below may be of interest.

The telephone survey is funded by the Food Standards Agency and is being carried out at University of East Anglia, Norwich. Participants may be selected from England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, and the survey will include at least 14,400 people.

We are asking people to remember whether they have experienced symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the recent past.
Some people we will ask about symptoms during the last seven days others about symptoms in the last four weeks.

We are calling landline telephone numbers throughout the UK.   So that we can be sure to call people across the whole of the UK we use the first part of the telephone numbers and then we are generating random numbers to replace the last three digits.  Your number was therefore selected by chance.

We do not know your name, or what type of household we may be calling.

Any information provided will remain completely anonymous, and people who take part in the telephone survey will not be contacted again.

Each telephone call should last no more than 10 minutes.
