Food Standards Agency - Paul Cook

Following a PhD in environmental microbiology and a post doc on microbial biodeterioration Paul joined the University of Reading in 1987 where he was a senior research fellow in food microbiology.

A move to the Department of Health in 1993 provided the opportunity for Paul to manage the Department’s research and surveillance on microbiological food safety including the major study of infectious intestinal disease in England.

Since April 2000 Paul has worked for the UK Food Standards Agency where he is Head of the Food Hazards and Consumer Protection Branch within Microbiological Safety Division. The branch is closely involved in work to support the Agency’s foodborne disease reduction work and the assessment and management of microbiological food hazards and incidents.
