HPA - Regional Microbiology Network, Leeds - David Tompkins

Dr David Tompkins MB ChB, FRCPath

David was appointed Regional Microbiologist in Yorkshire and the Humber for the Health Protection Agency in 2003. He has been a Consultant Medical Microbiologist since 1983 firstly at the Leeds General Infirmary, then from 1987 at Bradford Royal Infirmary and subsequently from 1992 at Leeds Public Health Laboratory. He was Director of the Leeds Public Health Laboratory from 1995 – 2004. Having an interest in gastrointestinal infections David was a member of the PHLS Advisory Committee on Gastrointestinal Infections 2001 – 2003 and is currently a member of the HPA Gastrointestinal Diseases Programme Board. David was a member of the Executive Committee and Editorial Team for the first study of Infectious Intestinal Disease in England, leading the microbiology team at Leeds which carried out the primary diagnostic microbiological testing for the study.
